Up and coming Vancouver composer/arranger Thomas Houlden is joined by Toronto counterpart Chelsea McBride for an evening of Christmas/holiday standards arranged for large ensemble.
I’ll be playing saxophone and clarinet in the Jaelem Bhate Jazz Orchestra, performing the Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite along with many of Vancouver’s finest musicians.

Symphony 21 presents the Nutcracker in a way you’ve never heard! This holiday season, treat yourself to a performance of Tchaikovsky’s timeless ‘Nutcracker Suite’ (with additional selections from the ballet) in its full orchestral glory. Alongside this seasonal favourite, experience the thrill of a full-sized big band, made up of some of the best jazz musicians in Vancouver performing Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s arrangements of the Nutcracker.

Symphony 21 will be performing the orchestral suite in the second half of the concert, while members of the Jaelem Bhate Jazz Orchestra will be presenting the Ellington and Strayhorn arrangements in the first. Both halves will also feature holiday favourites for both orchestra and jazz ensemble.
